Steve was born and raised in Melbourne and from an early age enjoyed exploring Victoria’s outdoors and learning about the landscapes natural and cultural systems. This interest resulted in university, a Bachelor of Arts (Coastal Geography), and a Master of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning. It was during Steve’s Master’s studies that he first worked with the Forests Commission, and shortly after graduation joined the landscape group full time. (1982)

Over the next decade, amid various State Government changes, Steve occupied a number of positions including Manager Landscape and Architectural Services (DCE & CFL) and the Community Education, Media and Information Branch.

In the early 90’s Steve moved to Sydney as National Manager Clean Up Australia.

His professional passion for landscape architecture however never diminished and after rejoining the industry in Sydney, another move northward took Steve to Queensland. He founded U PLAN in 1999 in the beautiful Whitsundays, and provided a range of landscape architectural planning, design and consultation services across regional Queensland. Steve still operates U PLAN across the same regions, although now based bayside in SEQ where he continues to enjoy the outdoors, and provide a warm Queensland welcome to southern visitors.
